Most of us think of being introverted or extroverted is as simple as falling into one of two categories: Would you rather stay at home on a Friday night in your pajamas or go out in public and hang with a big group of people you don’t know? If you find that you do check off the boxes on either being an introvert or extrovert, let’s look at some tips to become either more sociable or more reflective.

Introverts

Start up a conversation.

Small talk is now your best friend. Trying a few ice breakers is one way to boost your confidence when talking to strangers. More importantly, most people love talking about themselves, so don’t be afraid to ask someone a few basic questions about themselves such as:

-Where are you from?

-What’s your favorite show on Netflix right now?

-What’s your favorite restaurant in the area?

Sign up for a class.

This is a great tip for introverts that want to expand their social skills and try something new.Take part in that cycling class. Take a cooking class. some conversation starters with the person sitting next to you!

Give Compliments.

When you don’t have anything to say, try to say something kind about them! Not only could it make a person’s day, but telling someone you like their new shoes or jacket is a great way to break the initial awkwardness of an interaction. However, make sure you don’t constantly compliment them to avoid being disingenuous.

Extroverts

Invite only ONE friend to dinner.

By inviting only one friend to dinner, you won’t become distracted about what is going on around you. You’ll be able to catch up with your friend by asking some deep and meaningful questions that let your friend know that you’re always there to listen to them.

Don’t make weekend plans.

After a busy week, it is important for you to take time for yourself and recharge for the next week ahead. Whether you decide to spend time with your family, take a nap, or watch Netflix this is the time where you do absolutely nothing.

Read a book or watch a movie alone for at least ONE hour.

This is the perfect time for you to put your phone down and try to do nothing except sit in a comfortable chair and read or watch or movie. As a helpful hint, put your phone in another room during this hour so you do not become tempted to text, look on Instagram or check Snapchat.
