Clemson University Police dismissed reports of a suspicious person after it was found to be a "social media prank", according to a follow-up safety alert sent by the department.

University Police were requesting assistance identifying a suspicious person after reports of “odd messaging” to several female students were made Thursday afternoon.

“Upon contact with the resident, the individual would offer a handwritten note with odd messaging or begin a verbal conversation,” wrote University Police in a safety alert sent to all students and employees Thursday evening. “While the messages did not communicate any threats, the odd content was concerning to residents, and CUPD is taking these concerns seriously.”

The individual was photographed by security cameras in the Stadium Suites lobby and stairwell around 2:40 p.m. on Thursday. The individual was then caught on an exterior camera at the intersection of Williamson Road and South Palmetto Boulevard by Woodland Cemetery. He was seen driving a silver 2013 Ford Mustang around 4 p.m.

The individual appeared to be driving a silver 2013 or 2014 Ford Mustang.

The Tiger had reached out to the university for additional information, including the content of the messages and residence halls involved, but the reports were then dismissed.
